I photograph families both at home (your home) or outside. I love both, but if you asked me which one I preferred – my answer would always be in-home.
Why?
Memories.
The big thing that trumps an outdoor location for me is sentimentality. Your home is jam-packed with memories that you might not yet realise are so important. But trust me when I say – they will be in 10 years’ time when you’re looking back and wondering where the time went.
Your family and all the aesthetics that make your home truly yours gives so much more meaning to your photos.
A photo of you cuddling your little ones is always going to make your heart burst with love. Now picture it in the very room where you held them to sleep every night, or the armchair you feed them in and read their bedtime stories – that’s what makes it extra special.
There are also lots of practical benefits for having your family photo shoot at home:
- Your home has everything you need so you can relax without worrying about things like snacks and drinks.
- You don’t need to pack anything for your shoot. If you’re anything like me, you’ll always forget something in a mad rush to get out the door on time.
- The kids won’t get cold and you don’t need to stress about extra layers and coats.
- You don’t need to keep the kids up past bedtime for your shoot, we’ll do it first thing in the morning.
I admit it. I may be biased!
I get pretty emotional and passionate about in-home photography. Outdoor photography is just as beautiful in its own special way. You’ll get a Gallery full of love and connection in-home or outside, that’s a given.
But as the saying goes – ‘home is where the heart is’… it’s true!
